Membership Categories

INDIVIDUAL: Any individual actually engaged in library work may become an active
member of MLA upon payment of dues as provided in the Bylaws. Active members make take
advantage of discounts for conferences, retreats, and training through Montana Non-profit
Association. They are eligible to vote at the annual membership meeting and in all elections.

STUDENT, TRUSTEES, FRIENDS: Any student, unemployed individual, non-salaried
individual, Trustee or Friend may become a member of MLA upon payment of dues as provided
in the Bylaws. Active students, Trustee or Friend members make take advantage of discounts for
conferences, retreats and training through Montana Non-profit Association. They are eligible to
vote at the annual membership meeting and in all elections.

INSTITUTIONAL: Any institution or association engaged in library work may become a
member of MLA upon payment of dues as provided in the Bylaws. Only one person employed
at or a Trustee of an active institution may take advantage of discounts for conferences and
retreats at one time and one person from an active institution is eligible to vote at the annual
membership meeting and all elections.

COMMERCIAL: Commercial businesses, except institutions eligible for institutional
membership, may become a member of MLA upon payment of dues as provided in the Bylaws.
With a Commercial membership, active members may choose to either advertise with a full page
ad in two FOCUS newsletters or place a link on the homepage of the MLA website for the
current membership year.

PERMANENT RETIRED: Any person who has retired from active library work may become
a permanent member of MLA upon payment of dues as provided in the Bylaws. Active
members make take advantage of discounts for conferences, retreats and training through
Montana Non-profit Association. They are eligible to vote at the annual membership meeting
and in all elections.

HONORARY LIFETIME: Honorary lifetime members, who have been awarded the honor
through the Awards and Honors selection process, shall pay no dues but shall be entitled to all
the privileges of this Association, including voting eligibility and discounts for conferences,
retreats and training through Montana Non-profit Association. They are eligible to vote at the
annual membership meeting and in all elections.
